Spiritual Meaning
In Tibetan tradition, the blue, white, red, green and yellow of a prayer flag are associated with space, wind, fire, water and earth. Five-color cords borrow the same idea: every color, worn together.
In Chinese folk custom, a red or five-color cord is often worn on the wrist during one's zodiac birth year, known as benmingnian.
The banded agate bead is what bead traders call a one-line Medicine Buddha bead, a name taken from the Medicine Buddha of the Buddhist tradition. The knotting is called a vajra knot, after the vajra, the ritual scepter of Tibetan Buddhism. We share these as names, not promises.

Five Threads, One Cord
Red, yellow, green, white and a dark thread are braided by hand into one round cord, the colors turning over one another all the way around. At the front sit three beads: two copper beads set with small chips of turquoise, close as a mosaic, and one agate bead banded red and white.
It closes with a simple loop over a white ox bone bead. Light enough to forget, bright enough to catch your eye when your hand moves across the page. Wear it on its own, or beside a mala on the same wrist.
Cord, Copper and Agate
The cord is braided by hand from five colors of thread, worked in the knotting style known as a vajra knot. The two round beads at the front are copper beads, their faces inlaid with turquoise chips set close together. The red-and-white bead is polished banded agate. An ox bone button bead and a loop of cord make the closure.
The bracelet comes in one size, 6.9 in (17.5 cm) around, with a slight stretch.
