Light Through the Lattice

Hold it up to a window and the first thing you notice is the light. The band isn't solid. It is an open lattice of small geometric cells worked side by side, so the day shows through it, and once it is on, so does your skin.

Along its edge runs a line of tiny blue-green stones, each held in its own small prongs, and a fine beaded rim on either side keeps the pattern neat. Where the band opens, it doesn't simply stop: each end curls into a rounded oval of the same openwork, set with stones of its own.

It is a ring that rewards a second look. From across a table it reads as a bright band of silver with a few points of color. Up close it becomes something to turn slowly between finger and thumb while the kettle comes to a boil or a thought finishes itself.

Openwork Silver, Small Blue-Green Stones

The band is 925 sterling silver worked in openwork: a lattice of small geometric cells, bright and polished, edged on both sides with a fine beaded line. It is wide enough to show the pattern clearly and open enough to stay light on the finger.

Small round blue-green stones are set in prongs along the edge of the band, evenly spaced, with more on the two rounded ends where the band opens. Their color is bright and consistent from stone to stone.

The opening makes the ring adjustable, so one size fits most fingers. To change the fit, press the band in or ease it open gently with your fingers, a little at a time, and avoid bending it back and forth in the same spot.
