Spiritual Meaning
Few stones mean as much in Tibet as turquoise. For centuries it has been worn by women and men alike: braided into hair, strung at the throat, set into amulet boxes and hung from the ear.
Its blue is traditionally linked with the sky and with water. In Tibetan tradition turquoise is also held as a protective stone, often given as a gift and passed down within a family.
The ball below it is filigree: fine wire and tiny granules of metal built up into openwork. It is one of the oldest ways of working metal, and across the Himalaya it has long shaped hollow beads, prayer-bead counters and amulet cases.
Its upper half opens in petals, like the flowers offered at a Buddhist shrine. Its lower half curls into cloud scrolls, the auspicious cloud of Tibetan and Chinese ornament, a sign of good things drifting in gently.

A Small Piece of Sky
Turquoise is the blue of the high plateau when you look up: clear and calm, as if it held a little light of its own. Here a small nugget of it, smooth and not quite round, hangs from a simple hook. Below it swings a round filigree ball, its petals and scrolls darkened in the hollows so the raised lines stand out bright, like lace held up to a window.
They move when you move. A turn of the head, a laugh, a step out into the wind, and the ball sways and catches the light while the blue stays steady above it. Wear them on an ordinary weekday, to a long dinner, on a slow walk with nowhere to be: a quiet bit of sky that goes wherever you go.
Turquoise and an Antiqued Filigree Ball
Each earring hangs from a silvery hook ear wire, finished with a short wire wrap. Below it sits a sky-blue turquoise nugget, 7–8 mm, softly rounded and polished, irregular rather than perfectly round. Some stones show faint light-brown veining, so the two in a pair are never quite the same.
Small silvery spacer beads and bead caps with granulated edges frame the stone above and below, leading down to the filigree ball, about 11.5 mm wide. Its upper half is a ring of teardrop petals outlined in tiny granules; its lower half curls into cloud scrolls and ends in a point of three granules. The recesses are darkened, an antiqued finish that brings the openwork forward. Each earring is about 46 mm long including the ear wire. Sold as one pair.
